North Dakota Department of Health & Human Services’ mission is to foster positive, comprehensive outcomes by promoting economic, behavioral, and physical health, ensuring a holistic approach to individual and community well-being. We are looking for a candidate with a passion to help the citizens in our state.

As a Registered Dental Hygienist , you will be responsible to provide direct services for the school-based fluoride varnish and sealant program, provide dental health education and complete oral health screenings for North Dakotans to reduce the burden of oral disease.

Every day you will:

  • provide direct preventive services within the scope of practice and under the standing order supervision of the public health dentist.
  • develop, maintain, and cultivate relationships with schools, statewide and local partners
  • complete oral health data entry through an electronic management system
  • create and maintain your personal schedule and work independently

To thrive in this position , you should be comfortable providing services to individuals across the lifespan but especially with children. You should have the ability to travel within the assigned region and serve as backup for other areas of the state including overnight stays. You should be able to lift up to 50 pounds to setup portable dental equipment and workstation. You should have the ability to communicate effectively and have a proactive attitude toward finding and recruiting new schools, dentists, partners, and resources.

This part-time position offers a flexible work schedule. Hours vary depending on scheduling of services on a weekly or monthly basis. The registered dental hygienist will create their own schedule in partnership with the schools in their service area. Since this position provides services primarily at schools, it has limited responsibility during school vacation times. Per-diem and travel expenses for the position will be paid by the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.

This position is classified as temporary but is considered long-term temporary and is expected to be an ongoing position.

To be considered for this position you are required to have an Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene and must have a current license to practice dental hygiene in North Dakota. Candidate should have knowledge of principles and practices of preventive dentistry and dental public health.

Travel will be required. The individual hired must have a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel from one location to another within the state on their own.

You must be able to lift up to fifty pounds to transport and set up portable dental equipment.
